NorthStar New Media was started in January 2000 by Mike Walker who has worked in the web and multimedia design sector since 1994. The company currently works out of The Stromness Business Centre at the Old Academy in Stromness, Orkney and has 3 full time and 2 part time staff as well as connections with freelance designers and coders who assist when required.

The company’s core business is web and multimedia design but has been led into digital photography, digital video work, digital audio as well as print design in the form of posters and other marketing materials through market demand.

NorthStar currently services over 90 commercial websites – from small company presences to full scale marketing and e-commerce websites e.g. Orkney’s official tourism website and many marketing and e-commerce sites for companies, both local and further afield, of all sizes. Additionally Northstar has created a number of private extranet sites including the Biodeep project for BP and the Northern Isles Renewable Energy Resource Assessment site – both innovative, dynamic sites allowing gathering and management of large amounts of data through the Web.

The company prides itself on professionally designed and managed websites using the latest techniques. NorthStar offers clients full web strategy consultancy, design, production, marketing and technical writing as well as provision of web based technical services.
