Stromness is given a quirky spin in Britt's new exhibition 'A Room With a View'

WITH her cheery disposition and creative hand, Britt Harcus has successfully captured both the Stromness townscape and Orkney's well known faces with an exuberance and enthusiasm one cannot fail to be charmed by.
Stromness is always a winner as an artist's subject matter, and Britt's
handling of it in her exhibition entitled 'A Room With a View' puts a
welcome quirky spin on this appealing town, injecting vitality and
excitement into every mark laid down on paper.
As each lofty building winks and lurches, and every cobbled lane
rumbles and jostles you along, you are invited simply to enjoy the
vista with an uncomplicated frivolity.
In the same spirit, her caricatures in 'Portraits by Pencil Light' leap
out of the confines of their mounts and frames with unbridled
joviality, their exaggerated pointy noses or goggly eyes challenging
you not to smile and recognise the subject within.
Britt's characteristic choppy lines and light-hearted illustrative
approach hints at her self-professed inspiration from illustrators such
as Quentin Blake and Ronald Searle, but to liken too closely would do
her a great disservice.
Britt is an artist whose personality spills out into her work, gifting
us with an honest, vibrant and truly individual artistic
approach.Ellen Pesci
