Air service set to change due to boat service disruption
11/09/2009 14:21:00
THE winter air service for the North Isles is to be amended for the period between October 26 and December 22 200 to include additional flights between Papa Westray and Westray. This will allow pupils from Papa Westray to travel to and from Westray Junior High School.
The Orkney Ferries summer only service between Westray and Papa Westray
is operated by the Golden Mariana, which for the last few years has
also been used to provide an education service during the winter period.
This vessel is being used by Orkney Ferries to cover for the Graemsay
and North of Hoy service while mv Graemsay is out of service for major
works. Once the works to mv Graemsay are complete and this vessel has
returned to service, the Golden Mariana will be available for the
Westray to Papa Westray education winter service as in previous years.
Orkney Islands Council say that Council officers have been working with
the schools and families concerned to come to a suitable solution to
minimise disruption to the pupils' teaching, while at the same time
minimising disruption to flights to all of the North Isles during this
period.
All persons using the North Isles flights should check the winter
timetable for details which will be distributed shortly. Details of
flights are also available on Loganair's website at
http://www.loganair.co.uk. To make bookings, contact Loganair as
normal.
