Digital UK returns to Orkney
06/11/2009 16:00:00
TV viewers in Orkney will be given another chance to get advice and information on how to make the switch to digital television when the team from Digital UK visits the islands next week.
Following the success of a tour of Orkney and Shetland in September, Alan Cowie, Digital UK's North of Scotland Liaison Officer, will host a further four drop in sessions between Tuesday and Thursday.
They will take place at the following venues:
• King Street Halls, Kirkwall, Tuesday, November 10, 7-9pm;
• Dounby Centre, Wednesday, November 11, 10am-12.30pm;
• St Margaret's Church Hall, St Margaret's Hope, Wednesday, November 11, 2-6pm;
• Sanday Community School, Thursday, November 12, 10am-4pm.
Most viewers in Orkney are served by the Keelylang Hill transmitter group and will begin switchover from May 12, 2010.
Some homes in southern Orkney receive their signal from the Rumster
Forest transmitter group on the mainland and will make the switch from
June 2, 2010.
Switchover will make digital TV through an aerial (Freeview) available
to almost all households in the north of Scotland. Viewers served by
local 'relay' transmitters will get Freeview for the first time, seeing
the number of channels available through an aerial rising from four to
around 15.
Viewers can find out which transmitter they're likely to be watching
and the options for receiving digital TV in their area by using the
postcode checker at: www.digitaluk.co.uk, or via the helpline, Tel:
08456 50 50 50.
