Hammars Hill wind turbines ready for road trips

THE five wind turbines for the Hammars Hill windfarm in Evie have
arrived in Orkney and are due to be delivered over the next three weeks.
The sections of the five Enercon E44 turbines were offloaded at Hatston
pier last week
and deliveries to Hammars Hill are due to start on Tuesday, August 3.
There will be five major loads for each of the 900kW turbines. All the
deliveries will have to go the long way through the middle of the West
Mainland on the A986, A967, and A966 through Harray, Sandwick and
Birsay to Evie as the loads - the longest of which will be 25 metres -
are too long to make the turn into the Evie junction in Finstown.
With two turbines due to be delivered next week, one will be delivered
the following week, and the final two in the week beginning August 16.
It means that all 25 movements should be completed by Friday, August 20.
Richard Jenkins, chairman and project manager of Hammars Hill Energy
Ltd said that he would be liaising with the police and roads authority
to ensure the minimum disruption was caused during the deliveries.
Construction of the wind turbines will begin immediately following delivery, he added.
