16 teams to contest netball knockout

THE Royal Bank of Scotland Primary Knockout Tournament 2008 will be held at the Pickaquoy Centre tomorrow, Saturday, with 16 teams taking part.
Play in the Pickaquoy Centre Arena starts at 10.30am, with the final due to be played at 3pm.

A COUPLE of tries in each half of league game played in bitterly cold
conditions at Pickaquoy gave Orkney a 25-3 bonus point win over
visitors Stirling University on Saturday afternoon.
This was a game for the hardy and committed - and that was just the
spectators - as the sides battled it out wild wind, hail and rain for periods
of the 80 minutes.
Double delight for Catherine at Sports Awards

ORKNEY Table Tennis No1 Catherine Symons celebrated a double win at
Saturday evening's Orkney Sports Awards 2007, being named Sportswoman
of the Year and Senior Sportsperson of the Year at the ceremony at the
Garson Hall, Stromness.
Catherine, an Island Games bronze medallist in the Rhodes, picked up
another bronze in the recent Deutsche Bank British and Irish
Championships.

ORKNEY RFC's First XV beat Aberdeenshire 19-7 at Pickaquoy this
afternoon, Saturday, with Andy McGill celebrating a return to action
with a brace of tries - one inside the first minute of the game.
The opener came straight from Orkney's kick-off, with the Shire
clearing kick charged down and No8 McGill first to the ball as it
trundled over the line. That try, right in the corner, went unconverted
as Andrew Hamilton's kick dropped a fraction short of the posts.

ORKNEY RFC 16, MACKIE ACADEMY FP RFC 15
ORKNEY Rugby Club beat Mackie Academy FP by the narrowest of margins at
a wet Pickaquoy this afternoon, Saturday, edging it 16-15 over the
top-of-the-table visitors.
With the home side taking to the field for the first time in their
Orkney Brewery-sponsored kit, it was No8, and eventual man of the match
for Orkney, Andy McGill, who went over after a scrum inside the Mackie
22. Andrew Hamilton added the conversion for a 7-0 lead.
Orkney wins inaugural isles athletics championships

THE first ever Orkney Media Group Scottish Isles Championships
athletics competition has been won by the Orkney team, after an
entertaining day of track and field events at the Pickaquoy Centre on
Saturday.
Aly Bain got Orkney off to a winning start in the women's 800m, and the
home team steadily built a lead over Shetland and a small Western Isles
team during the afternoon.

ORKNEY RFC got off to a positive start in Scottish Hydro Electric
Caledonia League Division 1 with a 10-7 victory over Kinross at
Pickaquoy on Saturday afternoon.
After Kinloss had gone ahead with a converted try in the first half to
lead 7-0, Orkney replied with two unconverted tries from winger
David Wild and captain Roger Hall.

Rugby club kicks off new league season at home

A HOME fixture against Kinross RFC at Pickaquoy this afternoon,
Saturday, will open Orkney RFC's account in the 2007-08 league season.
Orkney's opener in the Scottish Hydro Electric Caledonia League
Division 1 will be played on one of the outfield pitches at Pickaquoy
due to the athletics competition taking place at the track throughout
Saturday.
Kick-off at Pickaquoy is 12.15pm.
