Short films coming to the Gable End

NEXT Friday, May 16, the Gable End Theatre is presenting a lively and varied programme of short films at 8pm.

These will be introduced by Mark Jenkins, who will talk about his work as a film editor and maker. The programme should delight those who remember the 'True Story of Sawney Bean' animation that was shown at the Gable End last year.

To coincide with this event, Rebecca Marr will have a presentation in the foyer to illustrate her photographic project with Orkney's agricultural community, sponsored by the Scottish Arts Council, the Pier Arts Centre and the Mart.

Coming next month: The Page Turner (cert 15) on Friday June 6, at 8pm and Away From Her (cert 12) on Friday June 27, 8pm.

Strynd Nursery holds fun day fundraiser on Saturday

STRYND Nursery Fun Day is being held this Saturday, May 10.
The nursery is holding the fun day as one of its major fundraising events of the year.
The nursery requires to raise around £3000 every year, as insufficient funds are granted to cover all the costs of running the nursery.
A raffle is also being held at the moment and is due to be drawn on the Fun Day at 1.45pm.
All the prizes are being displayed in the window of Ridgway Travel this week, with tickets for sale in the shop.
There will be Home bakes, bottle stall, lucky dip, treasure hunt, face painting, name the Teddy, sweets in the jar, pick-a-stick, hook-a-duck, jam jar Jamboree, bouncy castle, beat the goalie, pipes and drums, and much more!
Strynd Fun Day, only 10p entrance fee. Come along and join in the fun on Saturday, May 10, 12 noon till 2pm. The Strynd Nursery is located at the top of the Strynd, Kirkwall.
